AI Use Policy

Last updated 20 June 2026

We use AI to help us think and work, not to think for you. This policy explains how MT1L uses artificial intelligence, particularly in the VAT Scan, and how we keep it transparent, accountable and human-led.

Our approach to AI

MT1L helps organisations decide whether a change creates Value, fits the organisation (Alignment) and can be Trusted by the people affected. We hold our own use of AI to the same standard.

This policy explains, in plain English, where we use AI, how it works and how we keep human judgement at the centre.

Where we use AI

We use AI in a small number of clearly defined ways:

  • The VAT Scan. AI helps generate reflective prompts, surface considerations across Value, Alignment and Trust, and summarise what you enter into a readable result.
  • Drafting and editing. We use AI to help draft, edit and structure text, for example tidying wording or shaping a first draft that we then review.
  • Everyday admin. We use AI to support routine administrative tasks, so we can spend more time on the work that matters.
  • Designing services and building solutions. We use AI to help design services and to develop and build digital solutions and platforms, including bespoke tools, alongside hands-on design and engineering.
  • Designing and building this site. We use AI to support the design and development of our website alongside manual design work, for instance editing and structuring copy and refining layouts.

A person is always responsible for the result. We do not use AI to make decisions about you, and we always offer a human alternative, you can work with MT1L directly instead of, or alongside, the tool.

A considered, transparent approach

The VAT Framework recognises that trust has to be earned, and that not everyone trusts AI in the same way. So we are open about where we use it, and we never require anyone else to use it to work with us.

We also use AI deliberately rather than by default. Wherever we can, we keep our use proportionate, choosing it where it adds genuine value to our work and our clients, and leaving it out where it does not.

Part of our longer-term thinking is to stay conscious of dependency. We aim to design our tools and ways of working so they are sustainable and can stand on their own, keeping a clear view of the non-AI way of doing things. That way the value of our work and our thinking continues whatever happens with any single technology, and AI strengthens what we do rather than becoming the only way we can do it.

How it works

When you run the VAT Scan, the text you enter is sent to an established third-party AI service to generate a response. We design the prompts and structure the experience around the VAT Framework; the AI assists within that structure, and we review how it performs.

Human oversight and your judgement

AI output is assistive, not authoritative. It is a starting point to sharpen your thinking, not a decision, recommendation or professional, legal or financial advice. You should review what the scan produces, apply your own judgement and evidence, and involve the right people before acting.

Your data and the AI

The VAT Scan is designed for the idea or proposal you are exploring, not for personal, confidential or commercially sensitive information. Please do not enter such details into the tool.

The text you submit is sent to our AI service only to generate your response. We do not use your inputs, and we work with providers who do not use API inputs or outputs, to train AI models. For more on how we handle the information you give us, see our Privacy Policy.

Accuracy and limitations

AI can be confident and still be wrong. Responses may be incomplete, out of date or contain errors, and the same input will not always produce the same output. Treat results as prompts to test, not facts to rely on, and verify anything important independently.

Fairness and accessibility

We design our AI-assisted experiences to be clear and usable, and we review them to reduce the risk of unfair or misleading output. If anything is unclear or hard to use, tell us, and remember that a human route is always available.

Changes to this policy

As our tools and the technology behind them evolve, we may update this policy. The current version will always be posted here with the “last updated” date above.
